Frequently Asked Questions

The Company

-        What does the name RuB, stand for?
RuB
is the acronym of  RUBINETTERIE UTENSILERIE BONOMI.

Bonomi family is originally from Lumezzane and is involved in brass manufacturing since 1828.

It is very common to find companies with similar names, in the north of Italy, due the fact that various descendants of the original  Bonomi family have remained here. RuB is an independent company and is not related  to any other company, although some of them may be found in our supply chain.

RuB doesn’t have any subsidiary in Italy but has its own operations in USA and Japan.

-        Is RuB a solid company?

Absolutely!  The company invests in our future, by paying attention to main trading issues, techniques for  continuous improvement and prudent financial management. The dividends  are constantly reinvested in new technology not only in production but for each department. The use of third party financing is extremely limited. The company has a large stocks around the world, which helps to manage the market oscillations.

-        Where is the company plant?
RuB
offers its customers  a 100% made in Italy product  . The production plant is in the province of Brescia on the main road  between  Brescia and  Desenzano, in a town called “Ciliverghe di Mazzano”.There has been the  necessity to open two stock houses located in USA and in Japan to better serve  these two markets.

-        Are we sure they are quality products?
All our valves are submitted to strict project validation tests, test lines at each production stage, controls on material acceptance and each valves is submitted to an automatic dual seal test at 100%. They are approved for water and gas applications by different certification bodies all over the world

From Iceland to New Zealand, our valves are known as synonym of quality!

In addition, the company is ISO 9001 certified by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance in accordance to the PED regulations for pressurized vessels and regulations relating to safety and environment.

On average, in our plant we make 400.000 inspections/tests/verifications every day.

RuB products are warranted for two years.

The Products

-        I’ve read in your catalogue that you sell full port valves and 100% full port. What is the difference?
The  regulation DIN 3357 part 4 indicates that full port valves are the ones whose effective diameter is not less than  96% of the nominal port: for example, a valve with 50mm port (2”) is defined full port if  its diameter is not less than 48mm. The valves on which we indicate 100% full port have a ball  diameter perfectly identic to the nominal diameter of the pipe, so for a 2” valve, the effective port is 50mm.

-        What  kind of material do you use for your valves?

RuB is a  specialist of brass manufacturing. All our valves components and materials are tested according to very  strict quality standards. Brass is in compliance with  EN 12165 and EN 12164 available also in various alloys depending on application and destination: CW617N, CW602N, CW510L.

For CW617N, RuB specifies that Pb contents should be lower than 2,2% for many years. This requirement  will soon become a European regulation.

CW602N is an dezincification resistant brass alloy for hard water use.

CW510L is a brass whose Pb content is less than 0,25% and that is commonly called Lead-Free due to these percentage, the Pb content can be assimilated  to impurity.

The ball joints are in virgin PTFE, pure or charged with various contents according to needs.

The stem sealing is achieved thanks to a dual O-ring in FPM (Viton® is a registered brand Dupont) or as an alternative, with PTFE packing gland seal.

The handle is made of steel  C40 with suitable thickness,  able to support workloads higher than normal effort for the valve operating; Geomet® treatment that makes it three times more resistant to corrosion compared to  normal  galvanizing  treatments; at the end, it is covered by a thick PVC coating that creates a thermic and electrical isolation and makes the handle more comfortable to grip.

Our valves are conform to European directive RoHS.

RuB can also supply on demand product in aluminum and in steel.

-        What kind of gas or fluids can I use with your valves?
The combustible gases are divided in families: methane, propane, ethane and butane. RuB valves are homologated for use of gases belonging to all families. Our valves are also compatible with many other fluids and in the website download section you can find a specific document with a multitude of data according to this: link

-        Do you also have products suitable for drinking water use?

Each country  has its own concept of  “drinking water”. In many countries, RuB valves  are suitable for drinking water use, however RuB  has also developed valves  with special alloys such as  s24, s28, s21, s20, s26 made in DZR brass (CW612N) or S292 and the s242 in “Lead-Free” brass (CW510L) prescribed in certain geographical areas.

-        Do you produce valves that can be used for both water and gas application?
Even in this case, the answer depends on the legislation in force in the area in where the valves will be installed. Not all countries prescribe homologations for check valves with water and/or  gas use . Till today, we have four products approved by certification bodies for both water and gas use:

  • s84GW and k84GW are homologated  DVGW for gas use and KTW for drinking water use in Germany
  • s24 DZR WA is homologated in Australia by Watermark and Australian Gas Association
  • s292 is homologated in USA by CSA for drinking water use  (California, Vermont  and Maryland that require lead free brass use) and gas use in all European Union.

-        In your catalogue I can’t find the configuration I need; could you help me?
YES.  Beyond  standard production on catalogue, RuB has a large experience in customized products.  The peculiarity of such products can refer to a marginal detail such as handle color, rather than requiring forges and  ad hoc equipment in order to combine more functions in same product. In this context, RuB supplies important markets  such as automotive,   marine, heating,  pneumatics,  mining,  water treatment, firefighting, tools machinery construction and more others.

-        Why  does RuB manufacturing  make the difference compared to competitors?
Our company is specialized in check valve  design  and  manufacturing and throughout the years we have focused investments in optimization of production process and in range variety.

The fact that the material received has passed all tests in RuB gives an intrinsic guarantee on the product quality, reliability and duration.

Our quality is determined by certified raw material choice, by strict working tolerances, continuous tests for product improvement that, even if simple, aims to great variety of applications with wide range of pressures and temperatures.

RuB  valves are super performing for some applications but they are necessary if reliability throughout time is an important  prerogative request .

Some features of our valves :

  • pure and virgin PTFE that assures better performances throughout time and use in the most extreme  outdoor conditions;
  • they are silicon free and this makes them suitable for automotive applications and for any use with paint;
  • All project validation tests  require a  25.000 maneuvers test without leakages and  blowout tests with large security factors;
  • 100% dual seal test performed on each valve for 24h with air pressure that highlights also the most little leakages!

-        Can I purchase directly?
As manufacturer, RuB  establishes relationships with distributors covering a certain market or geography. They aren’t exclusive, but RuB  offers support to its distributors helping them grow sales and increase brand awareness. In particular cases, it’s possible to create a direct commercial channel but only according to certain terms.
RuB offers  to OEM manufacturers direct collaboration and technical support.
